whitefox: helping brands, thought leaders and writers create beautiful bespoke books
Excerpts from Experts raises money for NHS Charities Together. Where did the idea come from to self-publish a book for this cause?
When the pandemic resulted in the majority of senior recruitment activity grinding to a shuddering halt, the team at Fortune Hill sprang into action. They tried to brainstorm numerous ways in which they could help the community during these unprecedented times. The idea to write a book was the result of one of these brainstorming sessions and what transpired was a real energy and team spirit to do something that we had never done or even thought about doing before. The Founder & Managing Director of the firm was personally affected in a profound way, seeing his wife, a doctor, have to encounter harrowing scenes and put her health at risk on a daily basis. Motivated by a determination to make a positive difference, the team utilised their extensive network to create something truly special.
Who is the Excerpts from Experts reader and what does the book offer?
The book is for anyone who has an interest in marketing. Whether you’re a novice, experienced professional, marketing guru, or just vaguely interested in the magical world of brands and marketing, the book is a must-read. It offers over 5,000 years of cumulative marketing expertise distilled into 400 pages. The tips, traps, insight, advice and contradictions really do make for a fantastic read.
‘Motivated by a determination to make a positive difference, the team utilised their extensive network to create something truly special.’
What is the ambition for this initiative and what impact do you hope Excerpts from Experts will have?
Honestly, it’s hard to quantify at this point. With everything that’s going on in the world it’s impossible to know what this book could eventually mean or become. This initiative was all about bringing the marketing community together for a great cause. Enshrining wisdom and warnings from some of the brightest minds in their field in ink has been an unbelievable accomplishment in itself – but being able to raise £100,000 for the NHS Charities Together COVID Appeal would really be something special. In terms of impact, what would be amazing would be to hear that one day in the future, someone’s career in marketing was significantly improved as a result of reading this book or that the teachings in this book actually inspired someone to explore a career in marketing. That would genuinely bring a smile to our faces.
‘Whether you’re a novice, experienced professional, marketing guru, or just vaguely interested in the magical world of brands and marketing, the book is a must-read.’
Tell us about Fortune Hill and how COVID-19 has affected leadership placement in industries such as marketing and HR? What can we expect in the year ahead?
Fortune Hill is a London-based, international headhunter. We specialise in two areas – marketing and HR. Unusual. We know. We believe that marketing and HR are two sides of the same coin – both functions are responsible for nurturing an organisation’s culture (inside and out), for cultivating stakeholder engagement (inside and out) and for supporting long-term growth (inside and out). If these two functions aren’t in complete harmony, it can spell disaster down the line.

Whilst many businesses typically cut marketing spend in times of crisis, we actively partner with brave organisations who are constantly looking for opportunity and new ways to engage and grow their customer connectivity. With regards to HR, as many organisations restructure following this very intense period, we’re also seeing lots of opportunity being created in people functions – specifically on the diversity & inclusion side of things (long overdue). As a result we’re cautiously optimistic about the next 6-month period. We’ll do our best to help our network where we can as the dust settles on what we hope is a period we never have to experience again.
Excerpts from Experts is available to buy on most platforms. However, we’re encouraging everyone to buy it from eBay and Wordery as they’ve agreed to waive their fees to maximise the amount of money raised for NHS Charities Together.
