A bestselling novelist who decided to self-publish

The problem
Amanda Prowse is an international bestselling author whose twenty-six novels and six novellas have been published in dozens of languages around the world. Traditionally published by Lake Union, Amanda is the most prolific writer of bestselling contemporary fiction in the UK today; her titles also consistently score the highest online review approval ratings across several genres. Her books, including the chart-topping titles The Day She Came Back, The Idea of You and the memoir The Boy Between, have sold millions of copies across the globe. Described by the Daily Mail as ‘the queen of family drama’, Amanda won the coveted Sainsbury’s eBook of the Year Award with her novel A Mother’s Story, while Perfect Daughter was selected as a World Book Night title in 2016.
After writing a novella she knew her fans would love, Amanda wanted to find an alternative route to (digital) publication that would ensure Mr Portobello’s Morning Paper reached her readers’ hands as soon as possible. After being recommended to get in touch with whitefox, Amanda reached out to our Editorial Director Silvia Crompton, who was more than happy to support her exciting new project.
The solution
On this occasion, Amanda wanted to publish her book exclusively online, so it was available to read instantly on her readers’ Kindles and e-readers. She had finished the manuscript, but the book still needed copyediting, proofreading, cover design, ebook conversion and set-up on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk. In just six weeks, the whitefox team were able to take Mr Portobello’s Morning Paper from manuscript submission to publication, ensuring it was listed online with expert metadata to maximise discoverability and make sure Amanda received the sales she deserved! whitefox’s expert designer, in collaboration with the whitefox project management team and Amanda herself, created an elegant front cover that would look fantastic both on a Kindle and as a stamp-sized image online.
The result
In just four months, Mr Portobello’s Morning Paper has received in excess of 500 Amazon reviews and been featured on multiple book blogs including Between the Lines, Portobello Book Blog and My Chestnut Reading Tree! We couldn’t be happier to have supported Amanda on her publishing journey.
