Bringing visibility to parents of children with special needs

Overview

  • Authentic representation of a rarely spotlighted perspective
  • Deeply personal, high-impact memoir
  • Strong potential for media and community engagement

Challenge

Author, advocate and working parent Syreeta Brown approached Whitefox with a powerful story to tell. Her memoir, Bigger Than the Moon, traces the emotional and practical journey of raising her daughter Chloe, who was diagnosed with autism as a toddler. The book unflinchingly captures the grief, confusion and eventual clarity that came with parenting a neurodivergent child, from navigating school systems and legal battles to rebuilding life as a newly single parent.

Syreeta’s goal wasn’t just to publish a book. She wanted to create something that could serve as a lifeline: a deeply honest resource for parents walking a similar path. With a loyal community already following her blog and advocacy work, she wanted to ensure the book retained her authentic voice, reached those in need of support and opened up vital conversations about how to better serve families navigating special educational needs.

Execution

Whitefox worked closely with Syreeta to make sure the final book stayed true to her voice and message. We moved quickly but carefully, shaping a publication plan that balanced creative control with professional production. The book was made available in print and eBook formats to maximise reach.

Results

We ran a publicity and marketing campaign that sought to drive unit sales through a focus on reaching parents looking for support after an autism diagnosis. Whilst broadening the audience for the book was an important goal, we wanted to ensure our campaign reached those most in need of material around supporting children with special needs, and did so by focusing our targeting on family and parenting media. A stream of impactful coverage was secured, including a piece in the i Paper, a Talk Radio interview, an article in Autism Parenting Magazine and a Five Books feature on the best books for parents of autistic children.
