Lesley-Ann Jones, the journalist and bestselling author of multiple books on Freddie Mercury, was approached in 2021 by someone with a remarkable secret and access to Mercury’s long-lost personal diaries, filled with handwritten entries that rewrote much of what had been assumed about the man behind Queen.

The contents of the diaries were deeply personal, and Lesley-Ann had made promises to the person who shared them. With the content as sensitive as it was powerful, it was essential that Lesley-Ann retained full creative control. She came to Whitefox with high expectations and a clear vision for the book’s tone, cover and the way the story should be told. She needed a team who would collaborate closely, respect boundaries and deliver at a high levels.

Whitefox supported Lesley-Ann across all aspects of the book’s development and production, working to a royal-format hardback design and accompanying ebook edition. We secured the high-resolution cover image she had identified and brought her detailed creative brief to life, ensuring every step of the editorial, design and production process reflected the gravity and personal nature of the story.

When the project was announced in the Daily Mail and MailOnline, it immediately topped three Amazon charts and became a bestseller on pre-orders alone. Love, Freddie has been covered by newspapers, websites and TV stations around the world.

Translation deals were quickly secured in multiple territories, including France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain and Brazil with more in negotiation. A television documentary tied to the project is currently in production for global release.
