Fiction writers are familiar with friends, frenemies and family members (FFF) suspecting that a particular character – the clever one, the one who drinks too much, mistreats his wife, or the one who sleeps her way to the top – is in fact themselves (or their brother, their mate, their ex). They may be right – but not entirely.

This September 2024, we launched an exciting new initiative: a three-month paid internship programme aimed at demystifying the publishing process and providing hands-on experience to a young individual passionate about entering the publishing industry right here in our local community in Islington. As part of this initiative, we’re delighted to welcome Leila Mohamoud as our Freelancer Community Outreach Intern. The themes explored in the book - from tech addiction, big tech corporate ethics, misinformation and deepfakes, to AI’s impact on jobs and the human condition - are far more topical and less speculative than the author would like them to be. He started writing in the summer of 2023, as AI rapidly shifted from a technological curiosity to the single most influential force in our world economy.
