Q&A with Bob Marshall-Andrews, author and former MP

Bob Marshall-Andrews is a writer and criminal silk based in London.
From 1997 to 2010 he was Labour MP for Medway. As a result of his relationship with New Labour, one magazine described him as ‘the thorn in Tony Blair’s Red Rose’. His political memoir, Off Message, was published by Profile in 2011. Dump is his fourth novel.
He lives in London and Pembrokeshire and is frequently in East Africa in his role as Chairman of the George Adamson Wildlife Trust.

I’d started writing online as a way to share what I was learning in the industry, and when I hit 10 years I realised that I had created hundreds of posts, and within all of it there was probably a narrative and collection of the best that would be valuable if arranged and brought together in a book. I think people read books differently to how they read online, and people wouldn’t want to navigate through hundreds of webpages – but the experience of sitting and reading would be much more enjoyable. I love books, well-made books. and the idea of creating a very limited run to mark a milestone also appealed to me.

He spoke to whitefox about his busy year – The Syndicate is his first fiction novel (available now via Amazon) and he also acted as senior adviser to the Wu-Tang Clan’s Once Upon a Time in Shaolin project. Jacaranda Books acquired UK rights for his non-fiction novel about the project and will publish Once Upon a Time in Shaolin in November.

Q&A with Author Mike Stoner

Mike Stoner was born in the UK, but currently lives in Prague with his family. He spent a year in Indonesia, which provided a lot of the inspiration for his first novel, Jalan Jalan. He was selected for The Guardian’s self-published book of the month before finding a traditional publisher. He currently teaches English, trains teachers and does freelance writing. He’s planning to finish his next novel by the end of the year.
